Tips before booking Char Dham Yatra 2026

If you’re reading this, you’re likely planning one of the most significant journeys of your life. The 2026 Booking Window

Char Dham doors usually open in April (on the day of Akshay Tritiya). If you are planning your yatra from a distance, like Chardham Yatra from Visakhapatnam or a Chardham Yatra from Hyderabad, I advise you not wait till March. Make a booking at least 2-3 months in advance, as this will increase your chance of getting a slot. 

Registration is Non-Negotiable

The Uttarakhand government officially announced that pilgrims must have their biometric registration done online. Even if you book a premium Chardham Yatra from Prayagraj, you still need that official Yatra slip. It’s free, but it’s your "entry ticket" to the mountains.

Physical Fitness Matters (Even for Heli-Travelers)

We all know that physical fitness is a necessity if you are planning a char dham yatra, whether covering the yatra via roads or via helicopter, you need to have some sort of physical activity in place. Especially, if you are planning to travel via Helicopter, the air is thin up there, so kindly take a 30-minute brisk walk daily before the yatra. It makes a huge difference when you do a long climb at Kedarnath. 

Pack for Mountain Weather

The Himalayas don’t care about your weather app; it can be sunny at 10 AM and hailing at 2 PM. Always carry a light poncho and dress in layers. This is especially true for those travelling on a Chardham Yatra from Lucknow or other warmer regions; the temperature drop at night can be a shock.
